(FOX5) &#8211; North Las Vegas Fire Department say an elderly woman is dead after suffering severe burn injuries. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">NLVFD responded to a structure fire on Tuesday, Jan. 7 near Clayton and Washburn where a 92-year-old woman was found in critical condition. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The elderly woman was taken to the hospital where she later died. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to firefighters a pot was found on the stove. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Clark County Coroner\u2019s Office is expected to release the identity of the woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">North Las Vegas Fire Department would like to remind residents that cooking is the leading cause of house fires and injuries. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials recommend the following precautions to cook safely. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"list | article-list\">\n<li><span>Keep flammable items like kitchen towels and oven mitts away from the stovetop.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Turn pot handles towards the back of the stove.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Never throw water on a grease fire, instead smother it by covering the pot with a lid or cookie sheet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Wear short or tight-fitting shirt sleeves.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Store a fire extinguisher rated for kitchen fires within reach.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"copyright |\"><i>Copyright 2025 KVVU.
