Las Vegas (KSNV) — The local Las Vegas community is continuing to show up for the thousands affected by the wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
It’s been a week since those fires ignited, but standing strong with those who have been displaced are several businesses across southern Nevada like Good Pie, offering a proceed of their sales for January to victims of the L.A. wildfires.
“The opportunity where we can give back to the community and help those that lost their valuables and their homes by being able to offer the good hot and the proceeds that come from that for January we would like to put towards that fund,” said Good Pie Director of Operations, John Alers.
Alers says that the fund will consist of 15 percent of those pizza sales going to the Slice Out Hunger organizations, a national group also partnering with other local restaurants in the Las Vegas Valley, like Yukon Pizza.
“We are donating 20 percent from all of our proceeds from our slice sales and our lunch sales that are going to go to Slice Out Hunger, and what is cool is what they are doing with that money is they’re purchasing pizzas from pizzerias in the Los Angeles area and then those pizzerias are going to feed the community,” said Yukon Pizza Co-Owner, Cameron White.

Jewish Nevada, another local organization, is also stepping up and offering a helping hand by, collecting essential items and other donations as well as aiding those considering relocating to Las Vegas.
“There are a number of folks in our community who have been very generous who have been putting up their houses, rental houses, apartments for the families who are evacuating and we’ve also been collecting supplies; toiletries, clothes a lot of these families just literally evacuated with just the clothes on their backs,” said Jewish Nevada Director of Donor Engagement, Andrew Spivak.
While no set amount has been set by organizers on what they’d like to reach as fast as proceeds or donations, what many express is their hope that the Las Vegas community will show up for their California neighbors.
“It’s important to help people that we don’t know because at the end of the day, if it happened to you, you would want someone to help you out as well,” Alers said.
“Things like this hopefully remind us that we are one people and that the only thing that will save us is mutual help, there is nobody at the top who will save us, it’s really about community,” White added.
