LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Starting on Sunday night, the city of Las Vegas has two new ordinances focusing on preventing animal cruelty.
The city council on Wednesday approved two bills presented by Councilwoman Victoria Seaman.
One raises the penalty for abandoning an animal to $1,000, the maximum amount allowed under state law.
It was inspired by the death of Reba the Bulldog, who died a few months ago after being found sealed inside a container in triple-digit Las Vegas temperatures.
The other bill that passed restricts the number of animals a pet store can sell per person or household.
This was inspired by a couple arrested after hoarding more than 150 animals, at least a third of which were found dead.
