LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The agency in charge of tourism for Las Vegas approved spending for potentially hosting college football’s national championship game.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s board of directors on Tuesday approved spending up to $40 million in an agreement with the College Football Playoff Group.
Game-related expenses are budgeted at $25 million, including marketing and advertising, event permits, law enforcement and security services, and securing team practice sites. An additional $15 million would be set aside as a contingency in the event of cost overruns or liabilities.

Las Vegas has not been officially awarded a College Football Playoff national championship game. The LVCVA said it has submitted a bid to host any game between 2027 and 2031 and would serve as the organizing committee if awarded a title matchup, similar to Super Bowl LVIII last year.
If Las Vegas is awarded a championship game, it would become only the sixth city to host a Super Bowl, college football championship and a Final Four.
The NCAA Men’s Final Four is scheduled for April 2028 at Allegiant Stadium.
