Showbiz notes: ‘Late Night Magic’ exits the Orleans, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Live’ celebrates

This weekend marks your last chance to catch a little Late Night Magic at the Venue at the Orleans. The adults-only variety show will conclude its run on March 8, as Boyd Gaming plans to close the Venue for property renovations.

“I think it would be different if we were closing because the show wasn’t good, or we weren’t doing well,” says Douglas “Lefty” Leferovich, veteran magician and comedian and host of the show. “When you know it’s something that’s out of your control, like the property doing renovations, there’s nothing you can do.”

With Late Night Magic’s final performance looming, Leferovich says he’s already thinking about its next home. The edgy emcee and Pompey Entertainment’s Damian Costa are searching for a new location to build upon the show’s cheeky humor and rotating cast of misfit magicians and mentalists. Depending on the venue’s size, “we can have the flexibility of changing material,” Leferovich says.

“Fortunately, most of my cast performs, consults and does other things so their livelihood is not dependent on this show. But one of the fun parts about the show is getting together with a group of friends. I always tell people that the real show is backstage,” he adds. “Having talked with them, they agree they would rather wait a period of time to make the right move, as opposed to just going somewhere, just to go somewhere.”

Where Late Night Magic will end up is anyone’s guess. But Leferovich has made this clear: “I want the next move to be a step up.”

Another hilarious and edgy production with a rotating cast has also turned a new chapter. RuPaul’s Drag Race Live is celebrating its 1,000th show at the Flamingo on March 15. Can we get a yass, queen?

Over the past five years, the sassy Strip residency has featured over 30 drag icons from the Drag Race universe, which is certainly nothing to sneeze at. Of course, current cast members such as Asia O’Hara, Jaida Essence Hall and Morphine Love Dion will be there serving. But many speculate that the legendary RuPaul himself will also make an appearance, since his book tour for The House of Hidden Meanings visits the Flamingo on March 14.

In celebration of this big milestone, World of Wonder, the production company behind the Emmy award-winning TV series and Vegas show, will also broadcast the 1,000th performance as a stand-alone episode on its streaming platform, WOW Presents Plus. What’s more, the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Live Untucked, which follows cast members from the Strip show behind the scenes in Las Vegas, returns on April 16.
